Obituary for Doris Holmes (Pietz)

Doris "Nina"
of Bellevue

Doris “Nina” Holmes left us to go be with the Lord on Dec 28, 2020 at the age of 85 while sleeping peacefully. She was born to William and Theresa Pietz in Pittsburgh, PA on January 22, 1935. In the mid Fifties she met her husband John Holmes, a World War II veteran and Pittsburgh city fire fighter. Although widowed at a young age, she played the role of mother and father in a time when that wasn’t common. Despite these struggles, she always provided a loving and warm home for her children. Doris is survived by her brother Ron Pietz. Her four children: Kimberly, Jacquelyn, John and Doris. 11 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

Doris enjoyed working on her tan at the Avalon swimming pool and loved dancing wherever music was playing. Meanwhile, neighborhood children and parents would recognize her as the Northgate School District crossing guard, a job she performed proudly for many years.

Doris' final resting place will be in the Mausoleum at the Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery.
